residential aged care

Geena Cheung provides group and individual music therapy sessions at residential aged care homes.

Music therapy can look different across care communities, as programs are tailored to each community’s structure, culture, and specific needs, in collaboration with relevant team members. That’s why Geena offers a free, no-obligation in-service, providing organisations with tailored information and a demonstration of music therapy interventions.

Music Therapy is recommended as a core service by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety for its multidimensional impact on quality of life (see page 236 in the Final Report).

Music reaches people at all stages of dementia.

Music therapy is an allied health support that can promote the maintenance of personhood, help manage the psychological and behavioral symptoms of dementia, and preserve joy in a person’s life. As an interactive and social intervention, joint music-making fosters connections between individuals living with dementia and others.

The positive effects of music on people living with dementia has received wide coverage in mainstream media and academic research. Now is the time to integrate music therapy into dementia care.
